Fragments

An experimental series of hand-stitched art works, which explore our British heritage and rural traditions. I am fascinated by the forgotten human connections with sheep, which are revealed in old photographs abandoned in auctions. In these studies I explore how to preserve these fleeting moments, which have been lost and forgotten. By stitching into hand woven fragments of disintegrating cloth and using delicate plant dyed silk, I hope to retain a sense of fragility and the fading of memory. These pieces are a tribute to those who have gone before and the use of humble stitch preserves both memory and cloth.
